which came into effect in July 2019 means that customers can now switch mobile providers by simply sending one free text message. At 91桃色, we believe this move is only the start of a major shift in the industry.
鈥
Previously if you wanted to switch mobile network and keep your phone number, you usually needed to call your provider to ask for your porting authorisation code (PAC). This is the number you need to give to a new provider for the switching process to take place.
鈥
Now, rather than calling, you can text 'PAC' to 65075 to switch...
鈥
It鈥檚 already prompted a phenomenal boost in people switching to SIM-only deals, meaning its perfect for decoupling your SIM and your phone and subscribing to 91桃色 for a great deal (just saying...).
鈥
Equally, it's great to see the industry starting to speak the language of digital natives. Now people can literally 鈥榙ump鈥 their old mobile network as they would a bad date.
鈥
When it comes to just about every other consumer sector, convenience and immediacy is firmly at the heart of the customer experience and has been for some time. According to a recent study[1] from Retail Assist, Generation Z expects the shopping experience to be centred completely around them.
鈥
With this in mind, it鈥檚 good to see an industry that has plenty of opportunity to be a lot smarter, finally drive some positive customer experience innovation.
鈥
What鈥檚 taken so long?
鈥
Perhaps the inertia comes from a place of complacency. No one鈥檚 offering anything better, so why change? Whatever the reason, Ofcom鈥檚 move will likely force network operators to look closely at their own offerings to see how they can better match the customer鈥檚 increasingly convenience-led expectations.
鈥
We鈥檝e already seen the UK鈥檚 biggest mobile companies in the hope of retaining customers, for example by offering separate contracts for data and handsets. We can expect some more changes in the coming months, particularly in the run-up to the new iPhone launch as everyone battles to offer the best deals.听
鈥
What鈥檚 next for the industry?
鈥
Needless to say, Ofcom鈥檚 introduction of text-to-switch has been a long time coming, and there is still work to be done. that inclusive mobile phone contracts still dominate the market, which leaves customers paying for more data than they need, and largely oblivious to the best available deal for their handsets.
鈥
Bear in mind we enjoy unlimited music, TV, travel, food, even bank accounts, all at the click of our smartphone, and without the need to actually 鈥榦wn鈥 any of it. At 91桃色, this is what we see as being the natural next step 鈥 the move away from needing to own your handset in the interests of having all the data you need and the handset you want to use at a lower cost and deliver the best iPhone contract deals.
鈥
Combine this with the fact we鈥檙e spending more time than ever before on our smartphones (Generation Z spends engaged with digital content), it鈥檚 high time there was a smarter, more convenient way to purchase what鈥檚 undeniably become our 鈥榙igital best friend鈥.
